Creating Goals That Work For You

Goals are essential for making progress in both sport and life, and add direction to your life. They remind us of where we are going, and how we plan to get there. They help us set priorities and learn how to work within a time frame. Why is it that some people reach their objectives while others fall short?  ” You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.” Michel Phelps.

Those who succeed consider their responsibilities, such as work and family, and set up a plan that is in line with how much time and effort is available to them. Those who fall short are often unrealistic when they set their goals. Evaluate the importance of your goals, and what you are willing to sacrifice in order to achieve them. Goals can help us move closer to our true potential.

Research has shown that people who make their goals public in some way, perform significantly better than those who keep their goals to themselves. Having to be accountable for what you say you are going to do, acts as a motivating factor. Be true to your word and you will be able to achieve what you set out to.
